HEALTH & WELLNESS
Find Your Balance
Midlife is a time of opportunity — a time to reflect on what you’ve accomplished and use your hard-won wisdom and experience to create a purposeful path forward. Balanced health and wellness is the foundation on which you can build the life of your dreams.
True balance includes a rich blend of emotional, environmental, financial, intellectual, occupational, physical, social and spiritual fulfillment. It's natural, though, for the demands of a busy life to help you develop strengths in some areas more than others. When things start to feel out-of-sorts or off-balance, though, it’s time to close the gap between where you are today and where you want to be.
Whether you’re coping with an illness, struggling to eat well and exercise, navigating perimenopause, wanting to manage stress — or any other wellness priority — we’ll use science-backed coaching tools to help you create the change you’re seeking.
Below is a sample of challenges we can help you navigate. Most clients, however, don’t fit into a neat category. All experiences are welcome.
EXERCISE & NUTRITION
How many times have you thought about getting regular exercise and eating healthier — only to get sidetracked by exhaustion, cravings, stress, holidays or the everyday demands of a busy life? Sure, you know you’re “supposed” to eat well, drink less and exercise, but it’s hard to stay motivated and be consistent with so many priorities needing attention.
Diet and nutrition can have a huge impact on your energy, strength, flexibility and lean body mass — not to mention your risk of developing chronic conditions like cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, obesity and some cancers.
Let us partner with you on your journey to live a healthier lifestyle. Your coach can offer credible, practical and relevant nutrition and exercise information — plus support and motivation to help you reach your goals.
A great deal of research tells us that inadequate sleep is linked to a variety of health risks, including heart disease, weight gain, depression and dementia. Sleep deprivation also lowers your immune system and makes it harder for your body to recover from exercise. If that wasn’t enough, fatigue also decreases self-control, making it more challenging to stick to healthy habits.
Sleeping needs vary from person to person, but making small adjustments to your sleep hygiene can have a tremendous impact on your health risks and quality of life. We can help you develop healthy sleep habits that promote adequate high-quality sleep.
COPING WITH ILLNESS
If you’re among the half of American adults living with chronic conditions like diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension, arthritis, osteoporosis, obesity or depression you know firsthand how difficult it can be to live a full, joyful life under these circumstances. And if you’re living with a cancer diagnosis, the physical, mental and emotional impacts of this disease can make “normal life” seem like a faraway dream.
Your coach can empower you to take control of your physical, mental and social wellbeing — supporting your healthcare plan, anticipating challenges and adopting healthy behaviors that support disease prevention and management.
Not all stress is bad, in fact there are stressful situations — like the nervous excitement of running a 5k — that can be positive and life-affirming. When stressful situations are ongoing and negative, however, they can cause or worsen physical and mental health conditions, such as anxiety disorders, arthritis, asthma, cardiovascular disease, depression, stroke, osteoporosis, insulin resistance, reproductive problems, weight gain and certain types of cancer, to name a few.
Research studies with healthcare providers have demonstrated that stress management improves health outcomes, yet most doctors are not equipped to provide support in this area. A coach can help you pinpoint sources of stress, create an action plan and develop healthier responses to life’s challenges.
Just when many women are hitting their stride with personal and professional accomplishments, midlife hormonal changes can turn everyday tasks into an uphill battle. It’s estimated that 85% of women have had their lives disrupted by common perimenopause symptoms, including hot flushes, insomnia, vaginal dryness, mood changes and weight gain.
Navigating the array of treatment options and making crucial lifestyle changes to improve your quality of life during perimenopause isn’t easy. We’ll help you become your own best advocate with healthcare providers and build a plan to stay on track with new habits that support your health and wellbeing.
There are many paths to spirituality — while some prefer the familiarity of a religious tradition, others are drawn to a secular exploration of life’s mysteries. Whichever path you choose, having a strong foundation of values and beliefs can provide you with comfort, guidance and direction in the midst of life’s many challenges.
Finding spiritual fulfillment can be challenging, from choosing a path that feels right, to finding time for services, meetings, rituals or reflection. Your coach can accompany you on the journey to identify your spiritual “home” and help you cultivate a spiritual practice that is nurturing and rewarding.
